Spring Meeting Fast Approaching – Register TODAY!

The SETAC-CPRC Annual Spring Meeting will be held Earth Day, April 22, 2013 at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville, MD

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Tim Wheeler, Environmental Reporter at The Baltimore Sun We are excited that Tim Wheeler, the environment and Chesapeake Bay reporter for The Baltimore Sun will be our keynote speaker for the annual meeting. Tim is a former president of the Society of Environmental Journalists. He has received many awards for his work, most recently the 2012 “Excellence in Journalism” award from the Renewable Resources Foundation for his reporting on efforts to clean up Baltimore Harbor. He will speak about “Saving the Bay: 30 Years and Counting

SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS In addition to our keynote speaker we have lined up a stellar collection of presentations from a wide variety of speakers. Our hosts at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center (CBEC; pronounced See-BECK) will tell us about the Center. Barnett Rattner, SETAC-NA immediate Past-President will also give us an update on SETAC activities, particularly those related to CPRC.

Registration

Registration is $50 for professionals and $25 for students.  The fee includes the optional adventure day on the 21st (including free use of kayaks, a guided bird walk, and free use of the facilities – see below). PLUS, all of the catered food and drink (breakfast, breaks, and lunch) during the day of the 22nd, over a dozen presentations, posters, and student awards. Register now!

To register, please fill out the 2013 Meeting Registration Form  and email to treasurer.setac.cprc@gmail.com.  Payments can be submitted via PayPal (no PayPal account is required) by following this linkPLEASE REGISTER NOW – we must get the caterer the final count on 4/16/13.

Please also join us on Sunday, April 21 for a full day of activities on the Chesapeake Bay.  Make it a family day! Bring a picnic lunch and join us on the deck overlooking the wild vistas.  This is a great opportunity to explore the area and meet people in the field.

  • 9-9:30am        Meet at CBEC
  • 9:30-12pm      Birdwalk led by Dave Palmer
  • 12pm-2pm      Bring your lunch to have by the Bay, meet fellow CPRC members
  • 2pm-4:30pm Kayak trip led by Rebecca Lazarus

The 2013 Spring Meeting of SETAC-CPRC will be held Monday April 22 at the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center in Grasonville, MD. 

We are now accepting abstracts for poster and platform presentations – we’d love to learn what you have been working on!  See the 2013 Spring Meeting page for additional meeting information, including details on how to submit abstracts.

The abstract deadline has been extended to March 22, 2013.

EPA Research Training Program Grant Information

EPA Research Training Program for College and University Students – The EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) is seeking grant funding applications for its program to “… support the training of undergraduate and graduate students in environmental research … It is envisioned that the goal of increasing both the effectiveness and number of future environmental scientists and technicians will be achieved by allowing students to collaborate with senior ORD scientists while working in a fully operational federal research laboratory. Research training will be conducted at EPA’s facilities in Cincinnati, Ohio. Some examples of the field of study for desirable student participants include (but are not limited to) those majoring in chemistry, engineering, biology, computer science, physical sciences, life sciences, ecology, and urban planning …” – Eligible applicants include “… public and private State universities and colleges, hospitals, laboratories, State and local government departments, and other public or private nonprofit institutions and in some cases, individuals or foreign entities …” – EPA anticipates having approximately a total of $1,800,000 in total available grant funds for the program with an award ceiling of $600,000.
