Update 03/01/2017: Short Course on Scientific Communication by Micaela Jemison

CPRC-SETAC is happy to announce an instructional short course on scientific communication will be offered in the afternoon on Sunday April 23rd prior to the Annual Spring Meeting’s full-day technical program on Monday, April 24th in Annapolis, MD.  The short course will be taught by Micaela Jemison, Director of Communication & Public Engagement at Bat Conservation International (BCI).  Prior to her current position at BCI, where she leads the education, marketing and fundraising departments, Micaela worked for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian Central Office of Public Affairs as a science communicator and multimedia producer.

Update 02/28/2017: Keynote Speaker – Dr. Tala Henry

CPRC-SETAC is pleased to announce our 2017 spring meeting’s keynote speaker, Dr. Tala Henry, Director of the Risk Assessment Division in the Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Dr. Henry has been with EPA for over 20 years where she now leads several Agency programs under the recently updated Toxic Substances Control Act.  Much of Dr. Henry’s professional experience with EPA has been as a Toxicologist.  She has worked in a variety of programs at the EPA including conducting research on the toxicity of chemicals, conducting risk assessments for hazardous waste sites, and developing Water Quality Criteria.  Dr. Henry also serves as the United States representative and technical expert for a number of international chemical assessment activities.  Dr. Henry received a B.A. in Biology from the College of St. Scholastica, a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Minnesota and completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  At our annual spring meeting on April 24, 2017, Dr. Henry will provide those in attendance an update on ““Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA): Highlights of Key Provisions in the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act”.

Update 2/8/2017: Call-for-Abstracts extended, now due February 24, 2017

 Call-for-Abstracts has been extended!  Closing date now February 24th.  Along with soliciting abstracts from environmental professionals we are enthusiastically encouraging student participation by offering student cash awards for platform and poster presentation excellence. This year’s meeting to be held at the DoubleTree Conference Center Annapolis, Maryland, April 23 & 24, 2017.  Plans are underway to kick off this year’s meeting Sunday with a half-day interactive short course on science communication (check back for more information), followed by Monday’s full-day technical program of scientific research that will bring together environmental professionals and students from multiple disciplines.  Final date to submit your abstract is February 24, 2017.

Please submit your abstract to cprc.setac@gmail.com with the subject line: 2017 CPRC Abstract.  Additionally, please indicate if you are a student and want to be considered for a platform or poster student cash award.

Update 11/18/2016: 2017 CPRC SETAC Annual Spring Meeting

The Chesapeake Potomac Regional Chapter of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (CPRC SETAC) invites you to our 2017 CPRC SETAC Annual Spring Meeting.  The meeting will be held at the DoubleTree Conference Center Annapolis, Maryland, April 24, 2017 (Check back for registration information!).  Once again CPRC’s Events Committee is planning a full-day technical program of platform and poster presentations bring together professionals from multiple disciplines to present their scientific research and to discuss ongoing and emerging regional issues.  Attendance is recommended for environmental professionals and students exploring solutions for environmental health problems, managers and regulators of natural resources, and environmental experts pursuing research and development answers. We enthusiastically encourage participation of individuals from academia, industry, and government agencies. Past CPRC SETAC Annual Spring Meeting attendees have enjoyed exploring scientific solutions while networking with the region’s top professionals. Students also engaged in mentoring and career guidance. Cash awards for Best Student Presentations, platform and posters will also be provided.
